ARTS CASE STUDY: FURIOUS FLOWER POETRY CENTER

FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS, Robert Mott has been creating design solutions for the Furious Flower Poetry Center at James Madison University. The nation’s first academic center dedicated to Black Poetry, Furious Flower focuses on scholarship and creativity as it not only preserves the rich history of Black Poetry, but celebrates and encourages emerging new voices. From posters, programs and invitations surrounding two of Furious Flower’s once-a-decade conferences, to special events and quarterly publication graphics, Robert continues to reflect the important voices of Black poets in all his design solutions.

“As an arts organization, it’s important we communicate who we are, what we do and what we’re about in engaging, meaningful, and beautiful ways.

Furious Flower Poetry Center is so fortunate to have found a mission-aligned artist like Robert Mott, whose vision and skill amplifies our presence and programs with visual impact. Robert’s dynamic designs have graced every aspect of our work, from the covers of our online journal to the signage in our physical space to the visual milieu of our fourth international decennial conference. Talent, heart, and excellence—Robert has it all, and it shines through in his incredible work!”
